Introduction

This web site provides information about the United Kingdom and Ireland chapter of buildingSMART, formally known as the International Alliance for Interoperability (IAI):

buildingSMART is created by the industry, for the industry. We are an alliance of organisations within the construction and facilities management industries dedicated to improving processes within the industry through defining the use and sharing of information; recently coined as the term known as BIM. The current work being carried out by the UKI chapter includes:

• COBie, IFC, IFD and IDM development
• Interfacing with buildingSMART international to tackle the international needs for BIM

Organisations within buildingSMART include architects, engineers, contractors, building owners, facility managers, manufacturers, software vendors, information providers, government agencies, research laboratories, universities and more.
